Where is Bidston Hill
Bidston Hill is a public open space in the centre of Birkenhead on the Wirral owned and managed by the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral Council. The Friends of Bidston Hill provide support and help with the management and maintenance.
The Hill can be seen from the M53 Motorway by looking to the right as one drives between Junctions 3 and 1 towards Liverpool (click HERE for local road map). The Windmill, the Observatory and the Bidston Lighthouse are famous and recognisable landmarks that can be seen from a great distance (and easily as one flies over the Wirral en route to or from Manchester or Liverpool airports).
The Hill can be accessed by leaving the M53 at junction 1 and following te signs towards BIRKENHEAD. This will mean turning right under the motorway and proceeding over the canal and railway bridge to the roundabout and taking the second exit left (signposted to Birkenhead). Proceed along this road past a traffic light and a pedestrian crossing and the next turn right is WORCESTER ROAD. There is a church on the corner of Worcester road. TURN RIGHT into Worcester road and proceed up the hill for about 400 yards. Take the first fork to the left and proceed along the road for about 800 yards and then on your right you will see a turning signed “ TAM O'SHANTER URBAN FARM”. Take this right turn and drive slowly up to the CAR PARK. The turning is opposite the derelict Flaybrick Cemetery Memorial Chapel.
There is a large site map in the car park showing the hill and its paths and walks and a map can be downloaded by clicking here (large map). |
